No. 3 LSU took on No. 4 Vanderbilt in a impromptu doubleheader on Saturday, and got swept by the Commodores by scores of 5-3, and 9-3 in Nashville in both teams first SEC series of the season.

The two teams played a doubleheader to beat the projected rain in Sunday’s forecast.

In Game One of the doubleaheader, Vanderbilt scored three runs in the first inning and never relinquished the lead; eventually winning 5-3.  The Commodores outhit the Tigers 10-4.  The loss snapped an eight-game win streak for LSU.

In the nightcap, Vanderbilt had another big early inning, scoring three in the bottom of the second en route to the six-run win.  The Commodores outhit the Tigers, 11-5, in the second game.

Hayden Stone (1-0) recorded the win in relief, pitching the final 5.1 innings, while Jared Poche’ (4-1) suffered the loss.

LSU was able to win Game 1 of the weekend series behind a gutty performance from Aaron Nola.  The two losses on Saturday make a 1-2 record in the SEC for the Tiger, with 27 league games remaining.

LSU will play South Alabama on Wednesday in Baton Rouge before the SEC home opener this weekend with Georgia.
