Going into the 2019 LSU Baseball season, a lot of experts had LSU ranked as a National Championship contender. In fact, the LSU Tigers carried the pre-season #1 ranking. One of the big reasons for the hype was that the program was returning a lot of players in major roles.

But now that the season is over, the same thing that excited people could be a major concern.

LSU Coach Paul Mainieri will have to replace several position players from the 2019 team. Including LSU all-time hits leader Antoine Duplantis, Josh Smith, Chris Reid, Zach Watson, and Brandt Broussard.

It’s hard to say who will start in the infield next season and Coach Paul Mainieri says the guys who served as back-ups this season are not guaranteed starting spots next year. But even with all of the changes that the team will have to make on the field, Mainieri does not expect to make any changes with his coaching staff.
