The Importance Of Geek’d Con In Shreveport
Geek'd Con is Shreveport's biggest comic and pop culture event, and it will return this August for the show's 5th anniversary. The event will once again be at the Shreveport Convention Center in Downtown Shreveport. This year's show will be on August 16th-18th.
Shreveport's Geek'd Con has become a massive beacon for geeks, bringing together fans from all over the region. Including fans from state's away. All descending on the Shreveport Convention Center in Downtown Shreveport for one big weekend.
The event has become so big it now ranks as one of the largest "comic con" style events in the state of Louisiana. At this point, the show may rank as one of the three largest in the state, which is something Shreveport and Bossier geeks should be proud of.
In fact, EVERYONE in the Ark-La-Tex should be proud of that.
A show of this size, in a metro of this size seems to be an odd fit, like it shouldn't happen. But it is, which is what we should be focused on, what we should be proud of...we have something we shouldn't have.
Looking even closer, Geek'd Con is the largest locally-produced "comic con" style event in Louisiana too. The event is put on by people who live here in the Shreveport-Bossier area. We ARE local geeks. Unlike shows across the state similar size, or larger, which are put on by people from outside of the state, who come here, but on a show for a weekend, and leave the state altogether.
There are local geeks who are excited about the show, and do embrace how big it's become, and how much that means.
When I talk to people about Geek'd Con, a lot of people get excited, but some quickly follow that excitement up with some form of the phrase "But what is it really?" or if they're not familiar, they usually say something like "What does that mean?". I'm pretty sure I'm not alone when talking to people, you might even have friends who you're trying to get to go along with you who "just don't get it".
When I get these questions, I'm actually not upset about hearing them. Because anytime I get those questions, it just gives me more of a chance to talk about the event.
But sometimes talking isn't enough.
I mean, I can tell people about guests, or the story of how the event started, or how it's designed just for Shreveport and Bossier (and not a copy of a Dallas or New Orleans event), or vendors...I mean, I could really go on and on. But sometimes showing the response and reaction of fans really demonstrates what the event is really about.
Which is when pictures and videos come in. We've put togetherr some amazing community interactions, and these are some of the pictures and videos we've picked up from it:
