A heat advisory remains in effect for North Louisiana and Northeast Texas.

The City of Shreveport has opened cooling centers around town to help residents deal with the heat.

“We want to do all we can to keep our residents safe in this extreme heat,” said Mayor Ollie Tyler. The Cooling Centers will have air conditioning, free bottled water and designated seating areas for anyone who needs to get out of the hot weather.

The hours of operation for the centers will be 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday – Friday; 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday; and closed on Sunday.

A.B. Palmer (547 East 79th St.)

Airport Park (6500 Kennedy Dr.)

Bill Cockrell (4109 Pines Rd.)

David Raines (2920 Round Grove Ln.)

Hattie Perry (4300 Ledbetter)

Mamie Hick (200 Mayfair Dr.)

Southern Hills (1002 Bert Kouns)

Valencia (1800 Viking Dr.)

These cooling stations will stay open until the heat subsides.

The National Weather Service says temperatures will climb into the lower 100's resulting in heat indices of close to 110 degrees in some areas.

This caution has been issued "heat related illnesses will be possible for those involved in outdoor activities and home bound people without air conditioning. You are encouraged to drink plenty of hydrating fluids and stay out of the sun.
