Bossier City's DiamondJacks Casino has closed permanently according to a release from the company. The casino was not able to survive the economic distress brought on by the coronavirus pandemic.

The press release from the company says the closure is due to:

"business circumstances caused by the unexpected impact of the coronavirus"

As many businesses in the state of Louisiana are reopening during the first day of Phase 1 in the state, DiamondJacks will be contacting employees to inform them of the closure.

KTBS reports Diana Thornton, DiamondJacks Finance Vice President said:

“In light of the sudden, unforeseeable market conditions that have resulted from the COVID-19 pandemic, the difficult decision has been made to close the casino. We have worked diligently to be a valued member of the Shreveport-Bossier City business community. We are saddened for the loss of a longtime business here in Louisiana.”

Ronnie Jones, the Chairman of the Louisiana Gaming Control Board, tells KEEL News:

"We have not formally been advised by the owner of the property that they are closing permanently. Nor has State Police received a reopening plan. So what we know with certainty is Diamond Jacks is not opening Monday and they still retain the operating license. The Board will monitor the situation as we move though the next phases of business recovery in the coming weeks."

Bossier City Mayor Lo Walker told KEEL News:

"It was not unexpected We hope the remaining casinos will absorb that customer base so we will retain that revenue"

The closure is due in part to a lack of investments from prospective new owners, or investors.
