Diamond Jacks Leadership No-Shows Gaming Control Board Meeting
In a bold move, the leadership behind Bossier City's Diamond Jacks casino did not show up today for the Louisiana Gaming Control Board meeting.
Peninsula Pacific owns the property, and rights to the gaming license, for the Bossier City casino. After attempting to move the license to South Louisiana (voters in St. Tammany Parish rejected the bid) the company was given a window to reopen operations in Bossier. However it wasn't until January that Peninsula Pacific admitted that they did not have a plan to reopen the casino in Bossier.
At that point, the company was given an extension, until today, to come up with an acceptable plan to reopen Diamond Jacks, which has been closed since March of 2020.
When it became clear to the Gaming Control Board that Peninsula Pacific had no plan, and that they didn't even have leadership represented at today's meeting, they moved to take action against the company. That action was potentially going to go as far as revoking Peninsula Pacific's gaming license today. But instead, the Board gave Peninsula Pacific 60 days to sell the property and license. Gaming Control Board Chairman Ronnie Johns said that this would be the final extension afforded to Peninsula Pacific.
The decision to give the company 60 days to sell, instead of revoking the license today, wasn't based in courtesy. They decided to give the 60 day window for a sale, because it would likely be faster to reopen the property through a sale than through revoking the license and reissuing it.
Chairman Johns called the developments with Peninsula Pacific "extremely disturbing" today.
Gaming Control Board member Julie Berry called the 60 day extension a "reluctant gift" for Peninsula Pacific. She added:
"Either way, I think we give you the 60 days. If it (the sale) doesn't work, we'll get the license back one way or the other. This is it"
There has been another company that has shown interest in buying the property from Peninsula Pacific. Foundation Gaming has reportedly started talks with the company about purchasing Diamond Jacks. However there are not concrete details on how soon that may happen.
