UFC 147 Recap – Silva vs. Franklin
UFC 147 wasn’t exactly the most highly anticipated fight card, so if you decided to save your pay-per-view dollars for 148, read on for the results.
Main Event: Rich Franklin vs. Wanderlei Silva
The main event of UFC 147 was a five-round battle of attrition. Franklin started strong in the first frame, with jabs and hooks. Wanderlei landed some blows of his own, but Franklin’s right hand left Silva wobbly. Franklin landed more effective combinations, though he did take a kick to the head.
The second round was all Silva, who unleashed punches in bunches, some knees, and a hard right which looked suspiciously like a flash knockout, though Mario Yamasaki didn’t seem to notice. Somehow Franklin survived this round
Round 3 did not have much action, and both men appeared somewhat gassed. Franklin got a takedown to half guard and a few short elbows, so he looked slightly better in this lackluster round.
In the 4th and final round, Franklin used his footwork and jabs to pepper Silva with punches. Franklin won the bout by unanimous decision (49-46), defeating Wanderlei Silva for a second time.
Fabricio Werdum vs. Mike Russow
Werdum, who had the hometown advantage and came into this bout still high off his win over Roy Nelson, landed a nice uppercut which sent Russow reeling. Werdum followed up with punches until Herb Dean stopped the bout at just 2:28 into the first round, declaring Werdum the winner via TKO.
Yuri Alcantara vs. Hacran Dias
It wasn’t the most exciting match, but Dias put an end to Alcantara’s 13-fight winning streak. The Nova Uniao representative attempted a lot of submissions and worked some intense ground and pound for a unanimous decision victory.
Felipe Arentes vs. Milton Vieira
In one of the more frustrating results of the evening, Arentes fought Veiera to a split draw.
TUF Brazil Finalists
The finals of the Ultimate Fighter: Brazil took place. Godofredo Pepey de Oliveira pulled guard on multiple occasions and threw some looping punches, but he did attempt a kimura in the first. Rony “Jason” Marianno Bezerra landed more punches and was more aggressive and had better positions. Bezerra wins the scrap by a 29-28 unanimous decision, becoming the featherweight Ultimate Fighter for TUF Brazil.
Cezar Mutante Ferreira fought Sergio Moraes for the middleweight TUF Brazil championship. Ferreira was efffectively aggressive from the get go. He landed a beautiful spinning back kick in the 2nd round which sent Moraes reeling, but Moraes started turning up the heat at the end of the 2nd round. Moraes was looking good in the 3rd bout, until Ferreira landed a beautiful straight left at the tale end of the 3rd round. Ferreira won the bout by unanimous decision, becoming the Ultimate Fighter for TUF Brazil.
