Which NFL team has the best and the worst fan bases, it's something you hear from players and coaches all the time, "We have the best fans in the league" but do they actually?

Well, a professor from Emory named Michael Lewis has come up with a metric in order to answer that question and see which teams do in fact have the best fans in the league.

Lewis based his findings off of three major categories, fan equity, social equity, and road equity.

The fan equity metric is measured by the amount that the fan base is willing to spend at their own home stadiums. All of that is relative to differences in market characteristics as in population, income, etc. and of course how well the team is actually performing that year. The road equity is based on the road attendance for each fan base.

As far as social equity goes Lewis describes it as "a measure of transmission or amplification." This is basically how much a particular team is in the national media on social media or a popularity contest.

With all that being said here's the list.

1. Cowboys

2. Patriots

3. Eagles

4. Giants

5. Steelers

6. Packers

7. Broncos

8. Bears

9. 49ers

10. Saints

11. Redskins

12. Colts

13. Falcons

14. Dolphins

15. Seahawks

16. Panthers

17. Raiders

18. Ravens

19. Bills

20. Jets

21. Texans

22. Lions

23. Buccaneers

24. Vikings

25. Cardinals

26. Chargers

27. Browns

28. Bengals

29. Jaguars

30. Titans

31. Chiefs

32. Rams

The Cowboys are no real surprise in terms of being the number one fan base in terms of basically spending premium money at Jerry World. Cowboy fans are crazy they would spend basically any amount of money to go to the games and to buy concessions. With all the success of the New England Patriots over the last two decades plus it's no surprise they're at number two on this list.

As far as the Saints go a top 10 finish is solid for a team who a lot of times fly under the national media radar as their social equity was ranked 22nd. However, as far as fan and road equity they ranked 9th and 7th respectively. That means they show out at home and travel extremely well.

As far as the worst fan bases go I think we were all shocked to see the Kansas City Chiefs at the bottom of this list but again there are many economic factors involved. In addition, there was no surprise that the Los Angeles Rams were dead last in this ranking, I wonder where they would rank if they were still in St. Louis and had the type of success they had last season...
