Saints Searching For Wide Receiver Replacements After Tyson Injury

The New Orleans Saints made an investment in their offense during the 2026 NFL Draft when they selected wide receiver Jordyn Tyson with the 8th overall pick. They took the Arizona State product high in the draft to bolster their passing attack.

The organization intended to build a foundation around quarterback Tyler Shough, and Head Coach Kellen Moore, after the team was building up momentum through the end of last season. Tyson was expected to be a target right away...bringing speed to the roster.

Hamstring Injury Halts Rookie Development

That offensive progression has now been paused, after a practice incident has put Tyson on the shelf. Especially considering that he's going to be out for a while.

Tyson suffered a hamstring injury that has completely altered the start of his professional career.

Medical evaluations indicate that the rookie will be out for at least two months to start the season. This timeline means Tyson will be sidelined deep into the regular season...leaving a hole in the offensive lineup.

Looking For A Capable Roster Replacement

With their rookie sidelined, the Saints are actively exploring avenues to fill the void. The front office immediately brought in a pair of veteran wide receivers for a private workout.

Those names include Chase Claypool and Josh Reynolds...both of whom have some decent NFL playing experience. Claypool has not played a regular season game since 2023, while Reynolds spent time with the New York Jets last year.

Neither player has even been a Saint or are familiar with the franchise, but both offer a baseline of route running and field awareness. Fans should temper their expectations regarding these veterans...as they are primarily depth options to maintain stability rather than upgrades.

Instead of looking entirely outside the organization, the team might rely on the rest of their rookie class. The Saints also drafted wide receivers Bryce Lance and former LSU player Barion Brown earlier this year.

Brown has already been earning praise during training camp sessions. Fans have a reason to monitor his development...especially as the former Tiger steps up to secure a share of the offensive targets.
