Kansas City Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid has already won a Super Bowl championship with KC, and now he's got a chance to win a second Super Bowl for the Chiefs. But he will have to go through his former team, the Philadelphia Eagles, in Super Bowl LVII to make it happen.

Reid coached in Philly from 1999 to 2012. While there he helped establish some of the best offenses in the NFL. His first big move was to draft quarterback Donovan McNabb second overall in the 1999 NFL Draft. McNabb would go on to set multiple NFL and franchise records under Reid. The duo would lead the Eagles to four straight NFC East championships from 2001 to 2004. The team also made it to the NFC Conference Championship game in those seasons as well. In 2004, the team made it to Super Bowl XXXIX, where they lost to the New England Patriots.

After his time in Philly, Reid went to Kanas City in 2013. He brought instant success to KC, going 11-5 and making the playoffs in his first season. Since he took over the Chiefs, the team has only missed the playoffs in one season, and is currently in the middle of a consecutive stream of winning the AFC West, which started in 2016. During that streak, the Chiefs won Super Bowl LIV.

Before ALL of that, Andy Reid actually found himself coaching in Shreveport. So "how" and "when"?

Well, it was back in 1988, and it was during the Independence Bowl when the UTEP Miners took on the Southern Miss Golden Eagles. That might not be a marquee matchup based on team names, but it featured some top self Hall of Fame talent.

On the Southern Miss side, you had quarterback Brett Favre, who led his Southern Miss team to a 38-18 win. Favre had some big drives in the game, including an 80 yard drive that Favre capped off with a TD pass. But there's another major name who as involved in the game too.

The UTEP Miners featured an Offensive Line Coach named Andy Reid.

Yup, the Super Bowl winning head coach was coaching in Shreveport's Independence Bowl back in 1988. Reid coached at UTEP for 2 years, before jumping to Missouri. He continued as an Offensive Line coach all the way to his debut in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers in 1992. He held the same Offensive Line position and added Tight Ends Coach. The he moved into the Quarterbacks Coach and Assistant Head Coaching position. Which meant he was now coaching the same quarterback who beat him in the 1988 Independence Bowl...Brett Favre.

After the Packers, it was on to Philly, which we already covered.

In Super Bowl LVII, Reid won't be the only former Indy Bowl participant. The Independence Bowl says seven other former Indy Bowl participants will be involved in the Super Bowl. Including three starters on the Chiefs. Tight end Noah Gray (Duke, 2018), defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi (Florida State, 2017) and defensive back L’Jarius Sneed (Louisiana Tech, 2019) all start for KC. Sneed was injured during the AFC Championship game, so his status for the Super Bowl are up-in-the-air.
