Who Wears LSU Football No. 18 and No. 7 Jerseys in 2026?

The #18 jersey represents selfless leadership, excellence, and character within the LSU football program. The tradition began during the 2003 National Championship season when Quarterback Matt Mauck passed the jersey to Running Back Jacob Hester. Making Hester the first recipient of the iconic tradition.

Hester solidified the tradition right away when he wore it through the 2007 National Championship run. He cemented the legacy of the number by personifying the physical toughness expected from the selection. Immortalizing the number in moments against Florida, Alabama, and Ole Miss.

Braelin Moore Selected for Number 18 in 2026

For this season, LSU football awarded the #18 to fifth-year Senior Center Braelin Moore. The veteran offensive lineman transferred from Virginia Tech, and started all 12 games during his previous campaign with the Tigers.

During a team meeting, former players returned to campus to present the honor. Jacob Hester joined Richard Dickson, Greg Penn, and Bennie Logan to formally award the jersey to the starting center.

Because of NCAA rules regarding offensive line eligibility numbers, Moore will wear a commemorative patch on his #61 jersey rather, than changing his uniform number. He becomes only the second Offensive Lineman in program history to receive the honor, following Lloyd Cushenberry from the 2019 National Championship team.

Whit Weeks and Trey'Dez Green Earn #7

LSU has another jersey number that gets handed down by generation. The #7 jersey carries equal historical weight for the program, rewarding the most explosive playmakers on the roster. The tradition traces back to defensive back Patrick Peterson in 2008...and remains highly coveted today.

For the 2026 season, the coaching staff selected two players to carry the #7 legacy. Junior Tight End Trey'Dez Green and Senior Linebacker Whit Weeks will both wear the jersey when the season begins against Clemson.
