A child born in the great state of Louisiana has a better chance to become a professional athlete than a child born in any other state.  That's according to a study done by BusinessInsider.com!

The study breaks down the number of preofesional athletes in each of the four major American sports as well as the ratio of pro athletes per capita in each sport.

Let's start with the NFL.  The warm weather states birth the highest number of active NFL players.  Louisiana leads the way.  Per capita, Louisiana has the most active NFL players.  Washington D.C. actually has a slightly higher rate of active NFL players. But that's not a state, is it?

Hawaii and South Carolina are second and third, respectively. The cold weather states like Vermont, North Dakota, and New Hampshire have the lowest rate.

Let's move to the NBA. Once again, it's Louisiana that produces the highest rate of active NBA athletes per capita. California has the most active NBA athletes, but they still don't make it to "the Association" at the rate boys from the boot do.

Baseball is a slightly different story. If you're an MLB player, there is a 43 percent chance you came from Texas, California, or Florida. If we consider population size, Wyoming and Mississippi move up the list. Louisiana still has a high rate of players, but not at the top of the list like with the NBA or NFL.

In the NHL, well, I'm not sure there is one single Louisiana born NHL hockey player. So, let's move on.

Across all four major American sports, Louisiana leads the way per capita. No other state produces professional athletes at the rate the Sportsman's Paradise does. Alaska, Wyoming, and Mississippi follow right behind Louisiana.
