There is no doubt that the quarterback carousel will begin soon for the New Orleans Saints. Exactly who jumps on is not quite set in stone, but we can probably figure out who is going to be let off.

According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the Saints are expected to release quarterback Jameis Winston if they are able to lure Derek Carr in free agency.

Winston began the last two seasons in New Orleans as the starter. However, in 2021 he tore his ACL and last year's back injury once again cost him his starting job and he wasn't able to regain it from Andy Dalton.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport says that Carr's release from the Las Vegas Raiders will become official at 3:00 pm today (2/14).

Now, while it's clearly known that the Saints have a major interest in the nine-year pro, Carr said he "won't be in a rush to sign" and could take some other team visits before deciding on where to sign.

Winston, meanwhile, has spent the last three seasons in New Orleans and is entering the second year of a two-year contract he signed before the 2022 season.

He started the first three games this past season, going 1-2 while completing 63.5 percent of his passes for 858 yards, four touchdowns and five interceptions.

A back injury caused Winston to miss some time and head coach Dennis Allen stuck with Andy Dalton for the remainder of the season even though Winston was cleared to play.

The Saints went 7-10 in 2022 and missed the playoffs.

It should be a really "tasty" offseason for Saints fans as the quarterback dominoes begin to fall.

And of course, the team is back in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft after the trade with Denver for former head coach Sean Payton. The team has a total of eight picks in the draft.
