On Sunday, the New Orleans Saints announced the hiring of former Cowboy defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, and it didn’t take long for the first Rob Ryan mini-controversy to surface.

Reports were spread that Ryan’s contract stipulated he needed special permission to speak to the media. The Saints say there is no such language in Ryan’s contract and the notion is 100 percent false. Saints coach Sean Payton did have a problem in the past of defensive coordinator Gregg Williams talking too much to the media.

Under Rob Ryan, the Saints are expected to run a 3-4 defensive scheme, switching from the 4-3 scheme of previous years.  Last year, the Saints gave up the most yards of any team in NFL history.  They finished 31st in defensive scoring.

With the Cowboys, Roby Ryan led the defense to 24th in scoring and 19th in total defense in 2012.
