I never wanted to believe that Roger Goodell really had it out for New Orleans, but if this Saints scheduling rumor is true, there will be no denying it.

As you may or may not know, the New Orleans Saints are one of the NFL teams that will be playing overseas in 2022–and although the schedule isn't laid out just yet, the London game will be a home game for the Saints.

This means that fans in New Orleans will see one less home game in the Superdome. Not the end of the world, considering that it is a big look for the franchise to play in one of the few NFL games that are played outside of the country.

Well, it wasn't the end of the world until we caught wind that the home game that might be played overseas (aka NOT in the Superdome in front of 70,000+ fans who are mostly from Louisiana) will be the Bengals game.

Yes, those Cincinnati Bengals—the team that Joe Burrow plays quarterback for. When the home and away opponents were revealed for 2022 and fans saw that there would be a Saints-Bengals matchup, it instantly became the most anticipated home game of the season.

It was already being pegged as Joe Burrow's first return to Louisiana since he won the NCAA National Championship as the quarterback for LSU in that very same building. This was before the Bengals made that run to the Super Bowl and let's not forget the Eli Apple factor.

Saints fans were just as eager to boo and antagonize Bengals cornerback Eli Apple for calling New Orleans the "dirtiest" city as they were to welcome Joe home to Louisiana.

Almost instantly, fans went straight at Goodell's neck for even the mere possibility that the league that he oversees would be responsible for ruining Burrow's Louisiana homecoming.

According to Saints lead reporter for Sports Illustrated, John Hendrix, the Saints could block this from happening, but from what he's hearing it doesn't sound like that will happen.

Regardless, fans were still not happy to even hear rumors of that game even possibly being moved overseas.

Only time will tell, but given our history with decisions that Goodell has ultimately been responsible for, it isn't sitting well with many Saints fans.
