Number Zero Returns As Jordyn Tyson Joins The Saints’ Lineup
The New Orleans Saints recently selected wide receiver Jordyn Tyson with the 8th overall pick in the NFL Draft. Tyson is a big body receiver out of Arizona State, and was the first receiver taken during the 2026 draft. He steps directly into a major role with the Saints offense...and he plans to do it with some flair.
The Saints have confirmed Tyson will officially wear the #0 on his jersey for the upcoming season. Its the same single digit number he wore during his time playing at the collegiate level. The decision establishes an immediate visual identity for the rookie as he builds his name in New Orleans.
The Significance Of The Number Zero In New Orleans
Long ago, #0 was an eligible number in the league...actually, #00 was also allowed. But that changed in 1973 when the NFL created new number standards. The league only recently changed uniform rules back to allow players to wear the #0 once again during official games (although #00 is not allowed this time).
Tyson becomes just the third player in franchise history to select the number. Previously, Obert Logan wore #0 during the late 1960s, and Ugo Amadi wore it through last year.
Both Logan and Amadi were defensive backs, which means Tyson is currently the only offensive player in Saints history to ever wear #0 on the field. Giving Tyson a historical distinction, considering the rarity of the digit in professional football.
Supporters can expect retail merchandise featuring the new number to be available by the start of the regular season.
Tyson's Role In The Saints Offense
The coaching staff intends to integrate Tyson into the offensive system very quickly. It was obvious that Head Coach Kellen Moore took the Saints into the draft with a plan to get quarterback Tyler Shough more weapons...and spending a top 10 pick on a wide receiver means the Saints are serious about Tyson's role on the team.
Moore regularly utilizes multiple receivers to exploit defensive personnel groups. The addition of Tyson provides the passing attack with a necessary option to increase scoring efficiency.
