After quite a bit of back and forth, Rob Ryan will remain as the Saints’ defensive coordinator, as reported by the Times-Picayune's Larry Holder. Ryan’s job was in limbo for more than a week, but sources have confirmed Wednesday that he will remain at the defensive helm.

This comes after head coach Sean Payton said significant changes would be made involving every element of the program after a disappointing 7-9 season.

Three coaches were cut from the staff in early January including wide receivers coach Henry Ellard, tight ends coach Terry Malone, and assistant defensive backs coach Andre Curtis.

Ryan's two season in New Orleans have been a roller coaster ride.  He took over a 2012 team that gave up the most yards in NFL history and turned them into the leagues 4th rated overall defense in 2013.  In 2014, the Saints defense fell to 31st overall and ranked near the bottom in almost every defensive statistic category.
