Texas Rangers Name Former MVP To Opening Day Roster
The Texas Rangers are looking to rebound after a completely mediocre campaign last year. The 2025 season saw the Rangers finish with an even .500 record, and miss the postseason. The organization decided a dramatic change was necessary to shake off the lingering championship hangover...moving on from their previous skipper, Bruce Bochy, to officially bring in Skip Schumaker as the new manager .
Management believes this managerial pivot is the spark required to put the franchise back on track for World Series contention this year. The front office has spent the entire spring evaluating a dynamic mix of youthful prospects, and seasoned veterans, to construct a roster capable of competing in a highly demanding AL West.
One of the pieces they found happens to be a former MVP.
Veteran Leadership Joins the Rangers Roster
The final pieces of a competitive puzzle might just include a former National League Most Valuable Player. Because that MVP has been told he's officially made the Opening Day roster. Andrew McCutchen has successfully defied the odds at 39-years-old, and has made the major league squad right out of spring training.
McCutchen initially built a legendary career with the Pittsburgh Pirates, where he established himself as one of the premier outfielders in the NL. He has successfully over 300 career home runs, 1,110 RBIs, 200 stolen bases, and 2,200 hits.

While much of this did come with the Pirates, Cutch has made his way around the league. He has spent time with the San Francisco Giants, New York Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies, and Milwaukee Brewers.
Not only is he a former MVP, he's a 5-time All Star, Gold Glove winner, and a 4-time Silver Slugger.
What McCutchen Brings to Arlington
The seasoned veteran provides the Texas organization with a highly disciplined bat, and invaluable clubhouse experience for their developing younger stars. He is widely expected to serve primarily as a designated hitter against left-handed pitching, while occasionally offering reliable corner outfield depth.
Texas will rely on his veteran stability as they officially finalize their pitching rotation, which notably now includes highly touted prospect Kumar Rocker as the fifth starter. With a calculated blend of young talent and established baseball professionals, the organization is undeniably poised for a very serious postseason push.
