Facts

  • It is the first No. 1 versus No. 2 matchup in the college football regular season since No. 1 Ohio State beat No. 2 Michigan 42-39 on Nov. 18, 2006.
  • It is the first No. 1 vs. No. 2 in the regular season in SEC history.
  • The closest SEC has gotten to a “Game of the Century,” which requires a No. 1 and a No. 2, was when No. 1 LSU vs. No. 3 Ole Miss on Oct. 31, 1959, in Tiger Stadium.

On that night, Billy Cannon returned a punt 89 yards for a touchdown that gave the defending national champions a 7-3 win to keep their winning streak at 19 and garner him the Heisman Trophy.

“We’ve been watching each other all season,” LSU quarterback Jarrett Lee said. "It's going to be a great game."
