LSU's backs were against the wall following a shocking opening round loss to the UCLA Bruins.

Paul Maineri and his players never thought the season would come down to a must-win early in the College World Series. But the Tigers were unable to bring runners home in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the No. 1 seeded North Carolina Tar Heels.

In both games in Omaha, LSU's two best hitters all season long couldn't buy a hit. Alex Bregman was 0-8 and Raph Rhymes was 0-9 in two games.

In Tuesday's game, the Tigers' only two runs came when Mason Katz singled to left field in the 5th inning, and another run came home when Bregman grounded into a double play.

On the afternoon, the Tigers stranded 12 runs on base, and was 1-9 with runners in scoring position.
