It took 10 innings on Sunday, but the LSU baseball team rallied to beat Arkansas 5-3 and win their fifth straight SEC series of the season. The Tigers are now 34-3 overall, 13-2 in the SEC. LSU is one game behind Vanderbilt in the SEC, and four games ahead of Arkansas in the Western Division.

LSU got RBIs from Alex Bregman, Mark Laird and Raph Rhymes; but it was right fielder Sean McMullen who knocked in the go ahead run in the 10th with a deep sac fly.

Byrd grad Chris Cotton got his second win of the year in a relief appearance.  Cotton gave up one hit, but recorded the last six outs after coming in to tied ball game in the ninth.

Starter Cody Glenn pitched well to start the game but had to leave after taking a line drive off his chin.

Coach Paul Mainieri said,

This victory demonstrates the tremendous resiliency of our players.  We had a tough game yesterday, but our guys came back to the ball park today ready to play. Arkansas has an excellent team and one of the most impressive pitching staffs I’ve seen in all of my years in coaching. We faced a tremendous challenge against a Top 10 team in a very intense environment, but our players remained composed and won a great ball game.

LSU hosts Grambling St. on Wednesday at 6:30pm.  Listen live on 1130 the Tiger.
