The State Fair of Louisiana was the place to be Saturday night as KWKH welcomed country legend John Anderson to the stage. It ended up standing room only as John tore into some incredible tunes with his John Anderson Band.

Joe Spivey, who is from Shreveport,  is John's fiddle player,  and also plays guitar.  The crowd rose to their feet when they heard the first few licks of  "Seminole Wind."  That song is the title cut from the 1991 album of the same name.  It peaked at No. 2 on the charts.  Another release from that album made the women swoon -  "Straight Tequila Night" - which was a chart topper for Anderson.

Everyone has heard "Swingin," which he also performed. "Swingin' was a crossover hit for John early in his career.

I was at the fair early and had a couple of hours to kill before the big show,  so I watched a fire-eater (way too hot) and found tigers and an elephant in the zoo.  That made me laugh with the LSU Tigers playing the Alabama Crimson Tide, which has Big Al, the elephant, as their mascot.

I'd never been on an elephant before, so for $6 I rode Traci the Elephant with Armando Loyal,  her trainer,  walking ever so closely beside her.

KWKH was blaring the LSU/ Bama game,  so I was able to keep up with the game of the century,  too.   I enjoyed a "Bahama Mama," (without the alcohol),  and even tried my hand at throwing the football through the hole to win a prize for my kids.  Craps! I  lost twice.  I'm not very accurate at short passes.  I like to go long with the bomb!

I got to meet and sit next to Henry and Helen Reynolds,  who are celebrating their 44th wedding anniversary today.  I enjoyed meeting loyal KWKH listeners,  like Cecil Smith and Sean and Lisa Brannon.  John autographed an album for them.

John has a new gospel album out in which he wrote eight  of the ten songs. We'll be playing those as songs of inspiration during the KWKH Morning Show.

It was great seeing you there.  I hope to see you back next year for another great show on the KWKH Stage.

The fair continues through Nov. 13th.
