Another local athlete has gone from major college recruit to NFL Draftee. This time, its a former Captain Shreve Gator.

Kendrick Law started his football path in Shreveport, playing at Captain Shreve High School. The prospect gained attention from scouts from some of the top football programs in the nation before finalizing his college decision. He got offers from LSU, Texas, Florida State, Notre Dame, and most of the SEC. Eventually, Law decided he was taking his talents to Tuscaloosa.

He moved on from Shreveport to play college football for Alabama...then transferred to finish his college career with Kentucky. The time spent at both schools prepared him for the professional level. Law developed his skills against top competition in the SEC throughout his collegiate tenure.

Kendrick Law Selected By Detroit Lions In NFL Draft

The Detroit Lions selected Kendrick Law during this weekend's NFL Draft. The franchise wanted Law so bad, they executed a draft-day trade to move up and secure the wide receiver in the 5th round. The team had to clear a large gap, 13 picks, to get Law before anyone else did. They valued selecting him at pick 168 so much, they gave up two draft picks to secure the draft slot. Meaning they see long-term value in Law to put down that investment.

Detroit management identified the former Captain Shreve player as a target early in the draft process. The Lions have a recent habit of taking athletic freaks, like Law is, with their draft picks. Players like Jahmyr Gibbs, Isaac TeSlaa, and Alim McNeill didn't have the college production that made them players projected to be top overall picks, but put down insane numbers in pro days and combine workouts. Their 'measurables' in 40-yard dashes and vertical leaps jumped off the page, and the Lions had to have them.

Kendrick Law fits that mold.

In workouts, Law has bench pressed over 450 pounds...squatted over 650 pounds...and his game speed has been clocked at 23.2 MPH. To set up how insane that is, NFL speedster Tyreek Hill has been clocked at a top speed of 22.0 MPH on the field. This combination of size and speed earned Law the #3 spot on Bruce Feldman’s NFL Draft list, built off his 'College Football Freaks List', with The Athletic. The only two players ranked higher than Law, Kenyon Sadiq and Sonny Styles, were First Round picks.

The selection marks another step in his football progression, from Shreveport to Alabama, now Kentucky to Detroit.

Kendrick Law Projection For Detroit Lions Roster

Law enters the NFL as a wide receiver with established field speed, something the Lions love. But he brings another element that Detroit Lions Head Coach Dan Campbell loves...he blocks. In fact, he looks like he LOVES to block.

This fits the existing Lions wide receiver mentality, established by Amon-Ra St. Brown, who also loves to block.

The Detroit Lions project him to compete for playing time on offense and special teams. He will have an obvious opening on the Lions' depth chart, as Khalif Raymond has left Detroit to sign with the Chicago Bears.
