Shreveport Police officers were dispatched to Naomi Street in reference to shots being fired in the neighborhood.

The caller reported that his neighbor, Ramsey Farris, was outside in his driveway shooting a gun.

When SPD got to the scene, they made contact with Farris, who denied hearing any gunshots. Farris, who appeared to be highly intoxicated, also denied firing a gun.

Shortly after, several witnesses from the neighborhood talked with Officers, and told them that Farris had been in his backyard shooting in to the air. Witnesses also provided audio evidence from security systems capturing the gunfire.

Officers searched the backyard and located 11 spent 9mm shell casings.

After being detained and informed of his Miranda rights, Farris admitted that he had been drinking, was upset due to issues with his neighbors. Farris admitted to Officers that he had been shooting his gun in the air.

Farris was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Shreveport City Jail.

Farris has been charged with Illegal Use of a Weapon for discharging a firearm in a reckless and negligent manner.

From SPD:

"The Shreveport Police Department reminds the public that firing a weapon into the air is extremely dangerous. What goes up must come down, and those rounds can seriously injure or kill innocent people."
