IWGP United States Championship Match Coming To Texas
A huge announcement was made tonight as All Elite Wrestling (AEW) made their return to live, touring shows. From their edition of Dynamite in Miami, Florida, AEW announced that they would be hosting an IWGP United States Championship match next week.
The IWGP United States Championship is currently held by Jon Moxley, who will be defending it against "The Machine Gun" Karl Anderson in Austin, Texas.
This is a huge deal, because the IWGP titles are not American-based pro wrestling championships. They're based in Japan, and are the main titles for the promotion New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW). IWGP stands for International Wrestling Grand Prix, which is the governing body of New Japan Pro Wrestling.
The IWGP United States Championship that's currently held by Moxley hasn't been around as long as other IWGP championships. It was introduced in 2017, and has been held by only 6 men. With Moxley being the longest reigning champion in the mix, both in total overall reign and single reign.
Moxley's current reign, assisted by the pandemic, is well over 550 days. That combined with his first reign with the championship puts him over 680 days.
Now Karl Anderson is getting a shot at that IWGP United States Championship...
Anderson is a very well known name in New Japan Pro Wrestling. As a charter member of the original Bullet Club, he's one of the most recognizable faces worldwide for NJPW. He's also one of the best in-ring workers that NJPW has ever had.
The two will face off at Fyter Fest night 1 next Wednesday in Austin. Here are some quick details:
