His future with the Tigers was left in the air over the past few days but LSU’s NCAA compliance officer announced that he is permanently ineligible to rejoin the team.

Mathieu has postponed his announcement of where he would be transferring next season. NCAA rules indicate that he has two options: transfer to an FCS program like McNeese State in order to play this year, or wait out 2012 and hope to join a FBS program with his remaining eligibility. Either way, he could still join the 2013 NFL Draft.

It has fans wondering how this will affect LSU’s national championship hopes. Simon, a junior, replaces Claiborne at one corner. The other starter will now likely be a redshirt freshman, Jalen Collins.
