David Toms will be competing in a U.S. Open qualifier today in Memphis. He will be one of 145 golfers playing for 13 spots in next week’s U.S. Open at Pinehurst.

Toms has played in every US Open for the last 16 years but currently doesn’t meet criteria for this year’s Open.

If Toms does not gain entry through today’s qualifier, he can still make the US Open with a good enough finish at this week’s FedEx St. Jude Classic in Memphis. An event which Toms has won twice.

UPDATE 3:20pm CST:  After 18 holes today in Memphis, Toms is tied for 7th overall.  David shot five under on the first 18.  Toms must play 18 more holes and stay in the top 13 to qualify for the U.S. Open
