Byrd High Broadcaster Hits Major Milestone in Time for ‘Backyard Brawl’
The Byrd High School Yellow Jackets in Shreveport have had one heck of an exciting football season. They're 7-2 on the year. And, according to GeauxPreps.com, they're currently projected to be the #9 seed in the Division I (select) playoff bracket.
But, before they can start planning their playoff push, they have one more obstacle to face - the rival Captain Shreve Gators. Tonight is Byrd's Senior Night Game, kickoff is at 7 pm at Lee Hedges Stadium.
If you're a fan of Louisiana High School Football, the 'Backyard Brawl' has to be potential to be an absolute barnburner! The Gators may only be 5-4 on the season, but they've been involved in some record breaking, high scoring games all season long.
But Senior Night isn't the only thing happening tonight at Lee Hedges. Longtime radio broadcaster Charlie Cavell is celebrating a major milestone tonight with the Yellow Jackets. According to Charlie, tonight will officially be his 300th game as the "Voice of the Byrd Yellow Jackets". If you're keeping score at home, that's nearly 30 years of calling Byrd games!
In a Facebook post to celebrate the occasion, here's what Charlie had to say:
I've been so honored and blessed to be the "Voice of the Byrd Yellow Jackets" for 27+ years. As with any competitive endeavor there's always highs and lows based upon the outcome. But for me, just being able to put on the headset and call the game in what I consider its purest form, particularly for CE Byrd High School, has always been a tremendous high.
Congrats to Charlie Cavell and the Yellow Jackets for one heck of a season. As always, you can catch the game live tonight on 1130 the Tiger - KWKH. You can stream the game live here.
