The Byrd Yellow Jackets send their crosstown rivals, the Captain Shreve Gators to their second straight district loss with their 8-7 extra inning victory Monday night.

It was senior night at The Hive and all of the outgoing seniors had something to play for.

The Yellow Jackets built an early 4-0 lead by the top of the 4th inning. But in that frame, Shreve was able to get three runs to cross home plate.

Three innings later in the top of the 7th, the Gators were able to tie the game at 4-4 apiece.

With the bases loaded in the top of the 7th inning, Shreve was able to score three runs off of two costly errors in center field. Captain Shreve would lead 7-4 going into Byrd's last chance to bat in the bottom of the 7th.

In the 7th, the Jackets were able to get a runner on base via a lead off walk. With a runner on base, senior first baseman Lee Gorman, launches a two run homer to left field to get the Yellow Jackets within one run.

The Jackets were also able to tie the game at 7-7 in the same half inning.

With the bases loaded in the top of the 8th, the Gators were not able to get a run to cross home plate.

But, in the bottom of the 8th, the Yellow Jackets had the bases loaded. With one out and the count at 3-2, Byrd's Brennan Maloney hit a walk-off single to bring home the winning run.

The Byrd Yellow Jackets defeated the Captain Shreve Gators 8-7.

Byrd (16-17, 10-5 District 1-5A) sends Captain Shreve (23-10, 13-2 District 1-5A) to their second consecutive district loss.

The Jackets finish the regular season on the road, where they will take on the Ruston Bearcats on Thursday.

The Gators finish their season on the road at Pineville on Thursday night.
