The college football season for 2020 is in jeopardy. It has been for a few weeks, with entire NCAA divisions ending the season before practices can officially start. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused major issues all across the sports landscape this year, but college football might end up being the most compelling story.

It started out with just concerns over whether or not fans would be allowed inside stadiums, but now it's morphed into a question of whether or not the games should be played, or if players should even be allowed to practice.

While some Athletic Directors and schools Presidents are pushing hard to end the season, the players have started to return fire.

When Pac-12 players formed their own group to have a united voice in the college football world, many positioned it as the players wanting to shut down a season. But it is now clear that isn't the case. The Pac-12 players have now joined the other "Power 5" conferences (Big Ten, ACC, SEC, and Big 12) to call for a season this year.

Players have been using the hashtag #WeWantToPlay to echo their individual support. One of those players is a former star from Parkway High School in Bossier City, and current LSU National Champion Terrace Marshall, Jr, who Tweeted this...

But Marshall isn't alone, or even the biggest name to support a season. Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence posted a lengthy explanation of why he and his teammates want to play, and why they feel safer within their football program than at home...

That same mindset has been heard across the country from players. Baylor's quarterback Charlie Brewer, Ohio State's Justin Fields, Tulane's Keon Howard, Illionoi's Luke Ford, and West Virginia's Sam Brown are among the other players voicing their desire to play...

Some of the players who are demanding a season have already experienced the concerns around COVID-19 firsthand. Florida State offensive lineman Andrew Boselli battled COVID-19 earlier this year. So did most of his family. Now he's using his experience to justify why a college football season is important...

This new movement by the players is being heard by some college football leaders as well. Including an Athletic Director in the SEC, who's son is a college football players.

Arkansas AD Hunter Yurachek posted that he's heard from his student athletes, and that they want to play...

Now this could all mean nothing. The school Presidents will ultimately make the decision. It could be something along the lines of moving football to the Spring season (which comes with a whole new list of issues), or it could be a complete shutdown of all programs. At this point, we know that players want to play, coaches appear ready to play, and that the politics of the moment might outweigh all of them.
