The Shreveport Police Department will conduct what they call a "Safety Checkpoint" in East Shreveport.  I call it a Roadblock. The checkpoint will be held Friday, July 29, 2011.

Why are they doing this?
Police say, "it's an integral component of an ongoing, singular commitment on the part of authorities to reduce the number of deaths and injuries reported on our roadways".

What are they looking for?
Officers will be checking primarily for impaired drivers but will also be on the look out for any other violations that could compromise the safety of motorists and pedestrians.

I think they'll be checking to see if you have car insurance, valid inspection sticker, unexpired registration, any outstanding warrants or anything else that will make money for the city and state.

The roadblocks, oops I mean Safety Checkpoints, usually last about two hours. I remember them doing another just a few month ago. They stopped 135 vehicles and only 35 made it through without some kind of ticket.

So think about this, 100 vehicles got some kind of ticket.  If the ticket cost was $100.00 for each of the 100 vehicles that got a ticket, they collected $10,000.00 in just two hours.  If each car got a $200 ticket that would be $20,000.00 in two hours. And it was $300 per vehicle, well you see what I mean.

Let's keep everybody safe and at the same time fix some of these pot holes with some of that money.

Do you think they'll fix any pot holes with any of the money? Comments Please.
