U.S. Battles Sweden To Scoreless Draw in Women’s World Cup
Meghan Klingenberg headed a Sofia Jakobsson kick into the crossbar to prevent a goal, and the United States and Sweden battled to a 0-0 draw in their Group D match at the Women's World Cup in Winnipeg on Friday.
Sweden didn’t pressure the Americans often early, but the U.S. was also unable to score despite several good chances in the final 10 minutes of the first half.
Jakobsson’s shot in the 74th minute was the closest either squad came to scoring, but Klingenberg’s heady play saved the game for the USWNT.
The Americans will complete Group D play with a game against Nigeria on Tuesday in Vancouver.
