A lot has changed since we utilized car seats 20-30 years ago with our own children.

Now that grandchildren have entered the picture, this is the perfect time for us, along with other first-time grandparents, to get on board with the CARKEYS program. A safe, secure environment for our kids, or grandchildren, is absolutely first and foremost on my mind.

The proper use of a carseat provides so much peace of mind, whether it's a short trip to the park, or a cross-country camping trip. Unfortunately, many adults unwittingly put children in carseats that aren't properly installed.

Thankfully, the Kohl’s and LSU Health Shreveport CARKEYS program have teamed up to increase awareness about car seat safety and to train Child Passenger Safety Technicians.

"The CPS technicians then educate the community through the CARKEYS free car seat checks and Kohl’s funded fitting stations located throughout Northwest Louisiana," according to the program website. "CPS technicians remove and inspect car seats and then show the family how to properly install the car seat, providing a new one when necessary."

How easy is that? You walk away knowing that you're using the appropriate equipment for your child and that it's properly installed, both of which are important for drastically reducing the chances your child would die or be seriously injured in a crash.

For our listeners, whether you're a first-time parent or grizzled grandpa, we all need to learn and grow with the times.  And now is the time to make sure our kiddos are safe and secure-thanks to CARKEYS!
