The Shreveport Mudbugs hockey organization is arguably the most successful sports franchise in Shreveport-Bossier history. I think the only arguments could be brought by Shreveport Captains fans, or Centenary baseball fans. But the Captains have been a dead franchise for roughly two decades, and Centenary baseball may have players moving into professional ranks, but they don't have the "banners" the Mudbugs franchise does.

Sure, the Mudbugs had to take a few years off, but that was more about a lack of venue provided by the Shreveport-Bossier area than success on the ice or in the stands. Since the team has returned, they've won two NAHL Robertson Cup Championships since they joined the league in 2015.

Now the Mudbugs are fighting to add another banner in the NAHL Playoffs, and those games come to Shreveport this weekend.

The Mudbugs are playing their rivals, the Lone Star Brahmas, in the first round of the NAHL Playoffs. Lone Star had home ice advantage, but the Mudbugs stole one of two games in the Dallas metroplex last week, which now gives them home ice advantage. If they win their two Shreveport games, one on Friday and one on Saturday, they win the series. Meaning they can close out at home on Saturday night.

You can watch the Mudbugs play inside one of Shreveport's most historic buildings. The Mudbugs call the Hirsch Memorial Coliseum home, where they play on George's Pond. This is the same building that has hosted historic moments like Elvis "leaving the building", where Sammy Hagar played his first concert with Van Halen, and where the Miss USA Pageant has been held.

The Mudbugs will play both Friday and Saturday nights, with the puck dropping at 7:11pm both nights. It's good to remember that this is a hockey game, meaning there's ice inside. The temperature in the arena will be cooler than it is outside,  so keep that in-mind when you prepare for the game. You don't need a snow suit, but maybe consider a small, thin blanket.

Who Has A Higher Crime Rate: Bossier City or Shreveport?

These measurements are from the latest FBI Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) data from both Shreveport and Bossier City. The latest release for the pair was from 2019. While Shreveport has continued to release FBI UCR data, Bossier City has not released information since. Using the per capita measurement to fairly assess the populations of each city, here are the crime rates per 100,000 residents in both Shreveport and Bossier City for each UCR Violent Crime statistic.
