This past weekend featured a huge fundraiser with Shreveport-Bossier area geeks. It was a massive trivia contest, that was socially distanced, because it was all held on a Zoom digital call.

The Sci-Fi Trivia Night that was held this weekend raised over $21,000 for the cause. Saturday night saw nearly 20 teams log in to participate with Coastal Connection, Origin Bank, CHRISTUS Health, and Geek'd Con to help support the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana.

The Trivia Night saw teams dress up in cosplay, from Star Wars to The Incredibles, to Jurassic Park to Star Trek, and a ton more. They also decorated their team locations, with tons of lights, balloons, and custom artwork. The teams also came up with their team names, and all of these aspects helped the teams win prizes.

The teams answered almost 100 trivia questions throughout the night, and also participated in "side quests" for extra prizes along the way.

The whole thing was a lot of fun, but it was also for an incredible cause. Everyone has been touched in some way by the circumstances of 2020. More families are showing up to food banks than ever before, many for the first time. The money raised all goes to The Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana's backpack program and School Pantry Program. Chronically hungry children are provided with a backpack of food to take home for the weekend and holidays. Each 7-10 pound weekly bag includes items such as granola bars, fruit juice and pop top canned food. These bags will be sent home with students through combined efforts of teachers and food bank.
