Boil Advisory Issued for Shreveport Water Customers
UPDATE: As a result of the boil advisory for all of Shreveport, all Caddo schools on the Shreveport water system will be closed on Thursday, September 1.
Water troubles in Shreveport today. A system-wide boil advisory is now in effect for all of Shreveport.
During a routine inspection, the Louisiana Department of Health identified areas needing repairs on top of several storage tanks at key points in the system. LDH has required this boil advisory to be issued.
Officials with the Department of Water do not believe the northern portion of the city has been impacted but are issuing a system-wide boil advisory out of an abundance of caution. The system is in compliance with microbiological testing and the results haven’t given any indication of contamination.
What Do Residents Need to Do?
It is recommended that water be disinfected before drinking it, making ice, brushing teeth, or using it to prepare food or rinse foods.
You should boil water for one (1) full minute in a clean container. The one-minute starts after the water has been brought to a rolling boil. (The flat taste can be eliminated by shaking the water in a clean bottle or pouring it from one clean container to another) The boil advisory is expected to be lifted once the repairs are made and satisfactory test results are obtained by the LDH.
