WWE opens up a new decade with one of their "Big 4" pay-per-view events this weekend, with the 2020 Royal Rumble.

The event's history is deep with debuts, title changes, and weird gimmicks. Right now, the expectations aren't high for WWE to pull off anything major at the 2020 Rumble, but there are some outside chances for surprises.

Of course a title change at the Rumble would be a surprise, but when it comes to this event, debuts and comebacks are what people look for the most. This year's event might be short on those type of surprises, but the ones they will have might be major.

There's talk of WWE legend Edge returning to the ring, which he could do as a surprise entrant in the Royal Rumble. On the women's side, Ronda Rousey returning is a big rumor too. Some of the NXT talent may also appear in both the men's and women's Rumbles, which would be cool, but not the same kind of surprise an Edge return would be.

But then there's also the possibility that a hail mary might connect. CM Punk has (kind of) returned to the WWE world. In 2019 he was hired by Fox to be an in-studio commentator for their WWE products. He also recently named a price that would get him back into a WWE ring, so it is no longer a "never say never".

If Punk returned, it would cause the pro wrestling world to implode.

But it's unlikely. It's probably a better shot to have Edge return from a career ending injury.

Anyway, here's the card from CBS Sports:
