Former Texas Rangers pitcher Derek Holland has been a talkative sort during his MLB career. However, on Sunday, the now-Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher is a footnote in the history of the abbreviated 2020 MLB season.
Holland was ejected by home plate umpire Jordan Baker in the third inning of Sunday's Pirates-Cardinals game. Holland wasn't scheduled to pitch on Sunday and was sitting in the stands, rather than dugout, which is a part of the league's COVID-19 prevention protocol. Holland's apparent chirping about balls and strikes is what earned him the heave-ho.
Holland was the first player ejected in the Major League Baseball 2020 season.
The Pirates went on to win Sunday's game 5-1.
