Saints Poised For A Stable Superdome Future With Potential New Lease
The New Orleans Saints are closing in on a deal to keep them in the Superdome for decades. At least, according to those who are close to the discussions. Because no deal has officially announced. But if these reports are correct, the Saints could call the Superdome home until at least 2055.
What Is Going On With The Saints And The Superdome?
Because the New Orleans Saints organization doesn't own the Superdome, they have to have a lease agreement to be able to play in it. This means that a contract has to be negotiated on a pretty regular basis. For example, the contract being negotiated now would be for 10 years, but would have a series of four 5-year options that could extend the contract to being a 30-year deal.
But again, this possible contract hasn't been made public. The reports of a 30-year deal with the optional 5-year extensions are all speculation right now. But there's a growing number of reports from insiders that appear to confirm the details of this deal.
So there wouldn't be a need to renegotiate for some time if this deal comes together.
Who Owns The Superdome In New Orleans?
The State of Louisiana actually owns the facility, and operate it through the Louisiana Stadium & Exposition District subdivision. This group also runs the John A. Alario Center, the Smoothie King Center, the Saint's Training Facility, TPC Louisiana, and the Shrine on Airline...among others.
