The University of Tennessee Volunteers tied up their series with LSU by winning game no. 2 in Baton Rouge Saturday night.

The match up kicked off with action in the first inning, as the Vols put up a run during their first at bat. The Tigers, however, answered quickly with one of their own.

The next few innings featured the two squads jockeying for the lead. The Tigers took the lead 2-1 by the third inning thanks to a sacrifice fly by left fielder Jake Fraley, but the Vols tied it up again in the fourth thanks to a solo home run by center fielder Derek Lance.

During the bottom of the fourth inning, a single by LSU right fielder Mark Laird scored one run and put the Tigers up, 3-2.

The teams shut each other day through the eighth inning, when Tennessee snapped the scoreless streak. The Vols chalked up two runs in both the eighth and ninth inning, while the Tigers were unable to answer the late rally.

Final score: 6-3, University of Tennessee Volunteers.

LSU coach Paul Mainieri believed the team played well, but said they faced some unfortunate situations that hurt them.

"I don’t think we played poorly at all, we had some bad fortune and in the end Tennessee earned the victory," Mainieri said (quote via LSU Sports Net). "We executed well most of the night, but had some bad luck at times that hurt us."
