We've known for a few months now that the LSU Shreveport baseball team is good. But even with the Pilots' #1 ranking in the nation, the undefeated record, and incredible run differential...we didn't know they were this good.

What Did The LSU Shreveport Pilots Do This Weekend?

The LSUS Pilots hosted Texas College this weekend at Pilots Field in Shreveport, and scored a disgusting amount of runs. On Thursday, the two teams squared off in a doubleheader. The first game ended early, as college baseball has a "run rule" system, often referred to as a "mercy rule". If a team is leading by 10 runs or more at the conclusion of at least 7 innings, the game is over.

In the first game of Thursday's doubleheader, LSUS won in 7 innings by a final score of 37-0. They did this on 16 hits, and just a pair of home runs. The home runs came from Cooper Huspen and Jose Sallorin. The Pilots were aided by Texas College's 3 errors.

Thursday's second game also ended in 7 innings, with a final score of 15-0 in favor of LSU Shreveport. The Pilots pitching held Texas College to just 3 hits in game two. Draven Zeigler started the game for LSUS, and threw 5 innings. He was relived by Hayden Thompson and Cole Bormann, who each tossed an inning of scoreless baseball.

But The LSUS Pilots Were About To Break Records After That

The two teams got back together for a series finale on Sunday, and the LSUS Pilots ended up shattering records in that matchup. The final score was 42-4 in seven innings. The LSUS Pilots scored 42 RUNS IN SEVEN INNINGS.

The team broke two school records during the game: The Most Runs Scored In a Single-Game and the single-game record for Most Runs Driven In.

If you were wondering about the NCAA record (which LSUS doesn't play in, they play in the NAIA), the record is 50 runs in a game. That is held by Nebraska, who scored 50 against Chicago State in 1999.

What Is Next For The LSUS Pilots Baseball Team?

The Pilots are now 33-0 on the season, and 18-0 in conference play. They will look to remain unbeaten as they hit the road on Tuesday, April 1st, to take on Nelson in Waxahachie, Texas. Then they returns home on the weekend to host Texas A&M Texarkana for three games.

Their biggest test of the year is on the horizon. On Tuesday April 8th, LSUS travels to Nacogdoches, Texas to face Stephen F. Austin, who is a Division 1 NCAA team. Even though SFA is 9-19 on the season, there's usually a large gap between teams at the D1 level and the NAIA level. However, with the success that LSUS has had, it would appear they have a very good chance at hanging with a team like Stephen F. Austin.
