LSU Falls Short of NFL Draft Record
Today was the final day of the 2017 NFL Draft, and the LSU Tigers were going into the day hoping to break one of their personal best records. The record for LSU Tigers taken in an NFL Draft is 9 players, which happened in 2013 and 2014.
Through the first 3 rounds, 6 Tigers had come off the board, and there remained enough talent from the LSU program that breaking the record seemed very possible. However, it didn't work out for the Tigers in rounds 4, 5, 6, and 7, as the team only had 2 more players selected.
In the first 3 rounds, former LSU stars Leornard Fournette (Jacksonville), Jamal Adams (New York Jets), and Tre’Davious White (Buffalo) all get selected in the first round. Then in the second round, Seattle selected former Tigers’ center Ethan Pocic as the only Tiger in that round, and the third round had LSU linebacker Duke Riley go to the Atlanta Falcons, and former LSU linebacker Kendell Beckwith go to Tampa Bay.
The fourth round came and went without an LSU player, then in round five defensive tackle Davon Godchaux was selected by the Miami Dolphins. Another round was void of Tigers in the sixth round, but in the seventh (and final) round, the Green Bay Packers selected wide receiver Malachi Dupre.
Which means the Tigers only ended up sending 8 players in the the NFL through the draft this year. That ties them for the 4th most players sent into the draft by a college this year with Florida and Utah (yeah, Utah). 3rd place was Miami, and 2nd went to Alabama. The most players drafted this year belongs to the University of Michigan, who saw 11 players drafted this year.
