Sunday was a history making night. For the first time ever, a Louisiana native has been crowned American Idol. Livingston Parish native Laine Hardy was named american idol on last night's season finale.

Hardy blew the judges and audience away with powerful renditions of songs by Chuck Berry, Sonny Boy Williamson,  Hank Williams and other on his way to victory.

The big win was a long time coming for the 19 year old. This was Hardy's second appearance on the show. Last year he made it into the top 50 before being voted out. This year, he wowed the crowd and judges alike, eventually bringing the Idol crown home to Louisiana.

During the course of last night's season finale, Pop Star Katy Perry told Hardy "If you apply yourself ... you're gonna be one of the biggest pop stars on the planet." And it would seem that America agreed with that sentiment.
