The Manning name is revered in Louisiana, especially in New Orleans where Archie Manning and his sons left an indelible mark in professional and high school football.

Archie was the quarterback of the Saints in their formative years when they were the epitome of futility.  In 1980 when the team started the season 0-14, they were dubbed "The 'Aints."  Archie finished his career in Minnesota, but was one of the first players to be placed in the Saints' Ring Of Honor upon its inception in 2015.  His #8 jersey has not been reissued since he left the team in 1982.

Two of Archie Manning's sons have eclipsed his career.  After graduating from Isadore Newman School in New Orleans Peyton and Eli Manning have gone on to storied college and NFL careers.  Eli, of course, is currently the quarterback of the New York Giants whom he has led to two Super Bowl Titles.

Peyton is the more famous of the two brothers, not only because of his stellar 18-year career in the NFL which included two Super Bowl titles, but also because of his appearing in numerous television commercials over the years.  He has an uncanny acting ability, and perfect comedic timing.  It's those qualities which should be on display tonight when Manning is the special guest speaker at the 2017 Sports Awards at the Shreveport Convention Center.

All-City and All-Region athletes from Shreveport-Bossier City and the surrounding area will be honored.  Tickets are still available at tickets.shreveporttimes.com, and at the door.  Doors open at 6:00 and the event will end promptly at 9:00pm
