Kim Mulkey's LSU Women's Basketball received a first ever National Championship Trophy Sunday after defeating Iowa 102-85 in the finals, but they also received an accolade they might not have been expecting.

The Empire State Building, famous for once being the tallest building in the world, has a live camera aimed at the building featuring a live view of the iconic New York landmark.  And Sunday night the building was resplendent in Purple & Gold. I didn't even know the Empire State Building had its own Twitter account.

The LSU Women didn't just defeat Iowa 102-85, but they did it in record setting fashion.  With their 102 points, Kim Mulkey's Lady Tigers set a new scoring record for points scored in a Championship Game.

What makes this even more remarkable, not only is this only Mulkey's second season as the Head Coach of the LSU Lady Tigers, she did it with nine transfers and freshman.

From LSUSports.net:

LSU Head Coach Kim Mulkey — who assembled nine transfers and freshmen in an effort to “Piece It 2gether” in her second season in Baton Rouge — brought the program its first Final Four victory in six attempts last Friday. Two days later, she led the flagship institution of her home state to its first NCAA Basketball Championship and the 50th team national title in LSU Athletics’ 130-year history.

The team is expected to arrive to a huge reception at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center back in Baton Rouge on Monday around noon.
