Drew Brees is great. I know it. You know it. But do you really understand how great?

I thought I understood. As a season ticket-holding Saints fan, I get to watch Brees throw a football in person at least eight times per season. When I'm not watching him in the dome, I get to yell at my TV and cheer on the Saints—just like you.

We've heard his story. We know about the injury. We know Miami didn't believe in him. We know New Orleans took a chance on him. We know he took a chance on New Orleans after it was ravaged by Katrina.

We've seen him rise. We've seen him fall. We know how short he is compared to other quarterbacks. We've seen him shatter records and hold his status as one of the elites despite all the criticism. We watched him win a Super Bowl.

We're currently watching him play some of his best football at a high level as if he doesn't turn 40 in the next 3 months.

I know these things. You know these things. But even with all that knowledge, today I ran across an ESPN article that tracked his path to the record he is set to break this coming Monday night against the Washington Redskins.

The stage is set for Drew to surpass 71,941 career passing yards, giving him the most out of any quarterback to do it.

If you're a Drew Brees fan and can spare 5 minutes of your time, I promise you—the journey and the information down this detailed timeline is well worth the read and your time.

But please, read it before you watch the Saints play in prime time during Monday Night Football. It will make what we (hopefully) witness far more special.
