Who would have thought? Granted, it's a fat bird, but now I can't un-see it!

Growing up in Shreveport, I've always had a fascination with Bird Island. As a kid, my grandparents would take me there on the boat and let me look around and swing off of one of the many rope swings. It wasn't until recently that I learned the 4-acre island has an official name. According to Google Earth, it's actually named "Buzzard Island."

Personally, I've never seen a buzzard on that island, but I have seen about 72 Billion birds, so I'm going to forever continue to call it Bird Island.

Plus, I've never once heard anyone in Shreveport Bossier call it "Buzzard Island".

Anyways, back to my Google Earth discovery...

In case you're wondering, I get on Google Earth a lot when I'm bored, and today was one of those days. I can spend HOURS on Google Earth, just virtually traveling around town looking for something that catches my eye.

As I'm searching Shreveport-Bossier today, I happened to hit Cross Lake. My immediate thought was to find Bird Island and see if Google Earth captured anything interesting. Man, did I hit the jackpot.

Turns out, with a slight rotation of the Google Earth camera, Bird Island is actually shaped like a freakin' bird! Like I said earlier, it's a fat bird for sure, but a bird nonetheless.

You can clearly make out the islands feathery tail, wings on the top-left, feet on the bottom, and my personal favorite part, a visible head with eyes and a beak on the top-right.
