The Dallas Cowboys, who have been slow in free agency, add a (Texas Tech) Red Raider to the mix with the signing of Kerry Hyder. Per the release below, the Cowboys are adding depth to their defensive end rotation with the impending suspension of Randy Gregory.

For his career, Hyder has 42 tackles and nine sacks in 24 games and he broke out in 2016 generating a career-best eight sacks in 2016 for the Lions before an Achilles injury sidelined him for all of 2017. Hyder played in seven games for the Lions in 2018.

Hyder was first signed as an undrafted free agent in 2014 by the New York Jets.

The signing is an under the radar deal, but Hyder will absolutely excel with Rod Marinelli given the chance. Hyder played defensive tackle in college before being asked to slim down with the Lions. In the Marinelli front, Hyder's versatility will allow for some movement between several different roles.

Hyder played for Texas Tech from 2010-2013 tallying 33.5 tackles for loss and 11 sacks from the interior.
