Its been one of the wildest fights in recent college football memory. Even with all of the conference realignment and conference destruction that has taken place over the last decade, watching two conferences schedule about 20 games for one team feels like a new level of college sports insanity.

The divorce between Louisiana Tech and Conference USA has not been pretty, and will not be clean.

There was a big glimmer of hope today, as early reports said a settlement has been reached between Louisiana Tech University and Conference USA regarding their separation agreement. But as one of the greatest voices in college football would say...not so fast my friend.

No Agreement Yet For Louisiana Tech

These weren't official statements from either the university, or the league office, they were just reports. Which started to unravel pretty quickly

Conflicting reports weren't far behind the first declaration of an agreement. One of the 'not so fast' reports came from a recognizable name in Louisiana sports reporting, Ross Dellenger...

The two parties remain in active dialogue and appear close to a final resolution...even as minor details are still being ironed out by legal teams.

Why Are The Two Side Are Rushing To Get An Agreement

The urgency for a resolution stems from the extreme logistical complexity of the upcoming college football season. Because again...they have 20 games on their schedule. Maintaining stability within the athletic administration, and coaching staff, requires a definitive exit path from the current conference.

Failure to reach a binding agreement would likely move this conflict back into the judicial system for a final ruling. Litigation remains a strong possibility if the financial terms of the exit cannot be reconciled through private mediation...setting the stage for a lengthy court battle...and maybe 20 games for the Bulldogs this season.
