The Centenary College football program returned to official NCAA play this season for the first time since 1947.The school celebrated the return with a massive kickoff party for week one, but unfortunately the Gents were overpowered by Hendrix. Then the team took their first official road trip to Texas Lutheran, but weren't able to leave with the victory.

Which brings us to their week 3 matchup against the Austin College Kangaroos in Sherman, Texas.

The Gents made their way to Austin College in search of a win, and with it, history. Centenary was able to achieve that milestone with a 36-17 win over the Kangaroos on Saturday night. Marking the first win for the Centenary program since the 1940s.

You can rewatch the historic game here:

Centenary ran for 246 yards as a team, while accumulating 136 passing yards. The Gents were carried in the ground game by Zin'Tavious Smith who ran for 135 yards and 2 touchdowns. The passing attack was led by the combination of quarterback Kody Fuentes, who threw for 117 yards, and wide receiver Trent Smith, who caught two passes for 59 yards.

On defense, two Gents led the way with 8 tackles each. Freshman defensive back Delarrious Marshall and sophomore defensive lineman D'Qavion Lemons both led the way. The defensive unit was stellar in the game, recording four quarterback sacks, six total tackles for loss, and forcing four fumbles. Of the four fumbles, the Gents defense was able to recover 3 of them.

The Gents continue their road swing next weekend, playing Saturday, September 28th at East Texas Baptist University in Marshall, Texas. They return home on Saturday, October 5th to host Lyon. They will be back at home on October 12th hosting McMurry.
